Don’t eat while watching television. When you eat in front of the television like many of us, you are not concentrating on the act of eating. This can cause you to overeat by as much as 30%. You can easily eat a 2,000 calorie bag of potato chips in one sitting without batting an eyelash. Add sugary soda to that list and you can easily add another 500 to 1,000 calories. Wow, talk about defeating your weight loss.
Avoid eating after 6:00PM. Eating later on can cause you to get fat. The body is less active in the evening hours and eating just before you go to bed will make most of that meal turn to fat. Your body does not have the time to burn this fuel before sleep, so avoid that late night meal or snack. This also ties into weight loss tip #1 where we combine absent minded eating in front of the television with late night movies. Yes, it is fun, but your body will make you sorry.
Stop eating sugar! We cannot stress this enough. We eat too much sugar. Refined sugar is metabolized directly into fat in the body. When we eat sugar, the sugar level rises in the bloodstream and the body dumps insulin to control it. Insulin helps turn sugar into fat. Since the body does this anytime it sees too much sugar, it does not matter if you ate nothing all day and then ate lots of sugar. The body will still store the excess as fat, even if you are really skinny.
Eat 4 to 5 small meals 2.5 to 3 hours apart. Eating smaller meals more frequently has the side benefit of stimulating your metabolism. This means you’ll be burning more calories by just doing this one thing. The benefits are very noticeable over time.

The reason we like walking is because anyone can do it and walking is not overly stressful on the body. Running and jogging when you are very overweight can be downright dangerous!
Get a good night's sleep. Yes, you heard me right, lack of sleep will kill any diet. Lack of sleep does many bad things, but when dieting, it affects your metabolism and also contributes to eroding your energy level and enthusiasm. So go get a good night's sleep, your body will thank you for it.
