We said it before, we’ll say it again. There are as many weight loss plans as there are opinions on weight loss. Yes, it is true. Also, you should know that many of these diet plans actually work in the short term. Part of the reason for this is the fact that you are changing your routine and shocking the body. In the long term, however, you will determine the success or failure of your own weight loss program. Losing weight and keeping it off will not be the result of any one plan. You have your own habits and your own style. Your tastes are different from everyone else’s. As a result, you will have to choose to live healthy and reap the benefits. As promised, here are some weight loss plans:
A good twenty years ago, the low fat diet was pretty much the only game in town. The heart association was recommending a low fat diet for good heart health and my family doctor advocated it as well. Most people now know that a diet without fat is really hard to follow for any length of time.
Dr. Atkins is credited with being the first to bring this diet to the mainstream. Basically, you cut out carbohydrate for the first two weeks to shock your body. Then, as you lose weight an progress on the diet, you add more carbohydrate until you reach a level that keeps your weight constant. Other variations on this theme include the South Beach diet and the Zone diet.
As the name implies, the diet takes its cues from the Mediterranean lifestyle. Red meat is minimized while other protein sources such as fresh fish, chicken, beans, and goat cheese are promoted. The emphasis is also on natural foods and olive oil plays a big role. Vegetables are also prominent as are foods such as spinach, legumes, lentils, nuts and certain fruits. Oh, and a glass of wine with dinner is definitely allowed.
This diet excludes meat of all kinds. As such, the emphasis is on eating plant foods. This includes all kinds of vegetables and fruits, nuts, tofu and beans for protein. Many strides have been made in making veggie burgers and other tasty meals that you would not think are meatless.
Well, there you have some of the more popular weight loss plans. There are many more that we have not touched on here, but can be found in other articles on our site. Whatever diet plan you choose, we wish you luck and success.
Believe it or not, drinking lots of water helps your diet efforts more than you think. Did you know that the body makes you feel hunger even when you are just thirsty? Yes, it is true. Drinking eight 8oz. glasses of water each and every day will keep your body hydrated and you diet humming along. Remember, the body also needs water to flush out that fat that we are trying to lose!
Walking is the miracle exercise. Walking about a half an hour a day will help your diet tremendously. It does not matter what diet you are on. The reason we like walking is because anyone can do it and walking is not overly stressful on the body. Running and jogging when you are very overweight can be downright dangerous!
Get a good night's sleep. Yes, you heard me right, lack of sleep will kill any diet. Lack of sleep does many bad things, but when dieting, it affects your metabolism and also contributes to eroding your energy level and enthusiasm. So go get a good night's sleep, your body will thank you for it.
